SPIRITUAL VITAMIN DEVOTIONAL
"Be still, and know that I am God."
~Psalm 46:10
What does it mean to "be still"? It means quieting your thoughts, as well as your body, and focusing on one thing. You can be sitting still, yet your mind is racing 90 miles an hour. You can lie awake at night exhausted, trying to fall asleep, and still be worrying about all the things that need to get done the next day. You can even be reading your Bible, and your mind is making a mental note of all the things you need to do. "Being still" means you are willing to give your full attention to the Lord. It is a submission and an eagerness to listen - a readiness to hear.
How do you "know" God? To know someone implies an intimate relationship - to be familiar with someone. To really know someone you have to spend time with that person; time listening with your ears, your eyes and the "eyes of your heart". The more time we spend "being still" before the Lord, the more we come to "know" Him and hear His voice.
Prayer:
Father, I choose today to spend time with you. I confess that I have trouble being still, much less listening to your voice. I ask you to still and quiet the "white noise" in my mind, so that my heart can be in tune with you. Give me a singleness of heart and devotion to seek you daily. Let my heart be determined not to allow anyone or anything to distract me from being still before you. Holy Spirit, still and quiet my soul, so that I can "be still" and "know" my God.
