BREAD

"...he rained down manna for the people ot eat, he gave them the grain of heaven."
~Psalm 78:23

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I enjoy the cool, crisp fall season, families coming together and a fire crackling in the fireplace. I love the smell of a plump juicy turkey roasting in the oven and my mother's homemade cornbread dressing. One of my nieces makes the most delicious sweet potatoes you have ever put in your mouth. And of course, we have to have my sister's homemade pumpkin pie. One of the best things about Thanksgiving is the leftovers. They usually taste better. I think it is because all of the seasonings have blended and there is so little work involved in reheating them.

There is one item, however, that doesn't taste quite as good as when it first comes out of the oven.my niece's scrumptious homemade rolls. They are best served hot out of the oven with real butter. They make your mouth water, and of course, you can't eat just one. As good as they are, they don't make good leftovers. Bread is like that. It tastes best when it is fresh. Have you ever bought day-old stale bread? Grocery stores will even reduce the price to sell it quickly.

The Bible refers to the word of God as bread. Are you depending on yesterday's bread to sustain you today? When the Israelites were wandering in the desert, God rained down manna from heaven daily. They were to gather enough for that day. In fact, he commanded them not to gather for the next day except for the Sabbath. He opened the doors of the heavens and rained down manna for the people to eat. He gave them the grain of heaven. They ate the bread of angels. God sent them all the food they could eat.for that day.

Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry". Are you feeding on fresh manna today?

Prayer:
Thank you Father for my daily bread.fresh baked bread. Thank you for reminding me that I do not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from your mouth. Thank you for causing me to hunger for true bread from heaven. Let my heart seek and search for hidden manna, as I take the time to receive the fresh baked bread of your word daily. Oh, that I may taste and see that the Lord is good. Amen.
