HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS

Birthdays were a big deal in my family when I was growing up. All the attention and focus was on celebrating the special day you were born. In a family of six kids, it was the only time you got special individual attention! My mom would always make our favorite meal and birthday cake. Mine was friend chicken with mashed potatoes, green peas and homemade Carrot Cake! Yum! We had presents and invited our best friends to the party. It was your special day. Christmas is also a day of celebration. Many celebrate the holiday all month with festive parties. We decorate our houses with colorful lights, and we even put reindeer in our yards and on our roofs! We spend hours shopping and will stand in long lines to purchase expensive gifts for our loved ones. We have choreographed and rehearsed Christmas pageants and travel far away to visit family and close friends. It is a month of celebrating and making merry! How do you celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus? Is He the guest of honor at your party? Is your focus more on decorating and shopping than the birth of your Savior? Will you enjoy the benefits of the holiday without worshipping the King? Or...maybe you have crashed the "birthday party" without even knowing the guest of honor personally? To celebrate means to rejoice, have fun or mark a special occasion. Christmas is more than just a celebration. It is the birth of Jesus the Christ, the Messiah, the Savior, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, Immanuel, God with us. Let me encourage you this year to invite the guest of honor to your party, your home and especially into your heart for...a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for the birth of our Lord Jesus over 2000 years ago. Forgive me when I make the focus more on celebrating the holiday instead of the birth of our Savior. Help me to mark this special occasion by sharing your love with others as I celebrate the guest of honor and reason for the season. Happy Birthday, Jesus!
