"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given."
~Isaiah 9:6
I love sending out Christmas cards. There are so many different types to choose from. There is everything from reindeer to cozy fireplace scenes, to cute little critters playing in the snow, to a scantily dressed woman in a Santa outfit! Not exactly what I am looking for. I always try to find one with the real meaning of Christmas on it. You know, Jesus! The reason for the season. It seems to get harder and harder every year. Try finding one with an actual Bible verse on it.
Recently, I found one with the verse, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given." For some reason it kept bothering me. Then it dawned on me, the card left off the most important part of the verse. "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
We have allowed the "world" to reduce Jesus to a baby in a manger, and even that is being threatened. Secular society has commercialized Christmas so much, they have taken Christ out of Christmas. Employees are no longer allowed to say "Merry Christmas" but must say "Happy Holidays". When the teller at the bank or the clerk at the store says this to me, I always say "What holiday is it?" They inevitably say "Christmas", and I reply "Merry Christmas!" The look in their eyes is priceless as they realize the truth.
Who is Jesus to you? Is he the baby in the manger or the supreme ruler of the universe? He is your Savior.have you allowed him to be the Lord of your life? Is Christ in your Christmas?
I encourage and challenge you today to put CHRIST back into Christmas. Lift up the name of Jesus the Christ everywhere you go. His name is Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.and the government is upon his shoulders! He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords! May Christ be at the center of your Christmas this year! Merry Christmas!
Prayer:
Father, forgive me for being deceived by the ways of the world. Thank you for sending your son as a babe in the manger to be the Savior of all mankind. Help me to boldly proclaim the name of Jesus this Christmas. More importantly, help me to no longer see him as the babe in the manger, but the King of kings and the Lord of lords. The Lord of my life.
