NO ROOM

"...she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in clothes and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."
~Luke 2:7

Christmas used to be my favorite time of the year. Now it is the most stressful and harried time of the year. It consists of baking, decorating, shopping and standing in long lines at the post office and the malls. My calendar is booked with Christmas parties and my "To Do" list is endless. Traffic is backed-up and the pressure is on to buy the latest and greatest gadgets!

Yet, long ago God sent his son in a very simple way - in a quiet manger. He was not born to affluent parents - just simple people, a homemaker and a carpenter. He shared the "good news" with simple shepherd boys who were tending their flocks.

It was in the stillness of the night, while the shepherds were tending their flocks, that God sent his angels to announce the birth of a savior. He chose simple shepherds with humble hearts. Hearts ready to listen. Hearts open to God. Their lives were not caught up in the busyness of the world but in the simplicity of their daily lives. The crowds, the busyness and the celebrating were taking place at the inn - the same inn that had no room for baby Jesus.

Are you making room for Jesus this Christmas? Is your life so busy and stressful that you have pushed him out…again? If so, let me encourage you to slow down and meditate on the real meaning of Christmas. Open the door to your heart and make room for him to come "inn" this Christmas.

Prayer:
Father, forgive me when I get caught up in the busyness of the holiday. Instead, help me to slow down and focus on the reason for the season, the holiness of the season. As I wait in the long lines, help me to make room for Jesus by showing patience and kindness to those around me. Calm my frenzied heart and teach me to pray and praise you throughout the day. Let my heart be open and ready to listen and enjoy the simplicity of each day with you. Lord Jesus, I invite you "inn" this Christmas and everyday!
