SOWING

"Now he who supplies seed to the sower And bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed And will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness."
~2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Some days, do you feel scattered and disorganized? Are your efforts and gifts indiscriminately sown where they are most needed? Do you wish you were more focused and prepared? Are you sowing into the wind and reaping a whirlwind of chaos? Are you praying about where to sow seeds of your time, talents and gifts?

To sow means to scatter, disperse, distribute. I picture a farmer scattering seeds in a field. He does not haphazardly throw them into the soil, nor does he dump all of the seeds into one place. The farmer is a professional. He purposely and intently scatters them over the neatly prepared rows of his field. He plans, prepares and plants. The farmer knows what he is sowing, where he is sowing it and when he will sow it. He proceeds to feed, water, and weed his fields to nurture the seeds he planted. With purpose, preparation and precision, he sows seeds expecting to yield a plentiful harvest.

Prayer:
Father, I confess that I have been sowing sparingly with my time, my talents and my money --- with my heart. I have not been concerned with the needs of others as I go about my workday. I have been caught up in the demands, the deadlines and the distractions. Oh Lord, help me to sow generously as you, Lord God, love a cheerful giver.

Gracious and giving Lord, I thank you for the abundant gifts you have given me each day. Thank you for supplying the seed and the means for me to work and more than meet my needs. Thank you for increasing my store of seed.

Father, I realize that the blessings you give me (my time, talents, money and resources) are from you and belong to you. Help me everyday to choose to use them to further your kingdom and to glorify you.

Thank you that you are able to make all grace abound in me so that in all things, at all times, having all that I need, I will abound in every good work. Thank you that you have made me rich in every way, so that I can be generous on every occasion with thanks to you.
