SPIRITUAL VITAMIN DEVOTIONAL

"...he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him."
~John 13:5

Our Lord is the perfect role model of a Servant King. The Creator of the universe, the Savior of all mankind, humbled himself to wash the feet of the disciples. Just think about it, the King of kings and the Lord of lords washed the dirty, stinky feet of those he was leading. The spotless Lamb of God, who sacrificed his life on the cross for you and me, humbled himself to wash dirty feet. Like Jesus, would you be willing to wash the feet of those you lead?

The feet Jesus washed were not of men who wore cotton or silk socks and store bought leather shoes, nor did they have nice cars to drive. These were men who walked dirty and dusty roads. They did not have hot running water and daily baths to wash away their grime. These are luxuries that we take for granted today. Their feet were calloused and caked with dirt and grime from walking many miles on foot. The roads they traveled were not paved with concrete, but were hardened earthen roads covered with the manure of animals that journeyed with the pedestrians. Would you be willing to wash the feet of those who were covered in dirt and dung of the body and as well as the soul?

This foot washing took place the night before Jesus was to be taken captive. The all knowing Son of God knew that He would be taken prisoner, and that the same feet he was washing, would run away and desert him the next day. Would you be willing to wash the feet of those who you knew would betray and deny you?

Prayer:
Father God, I am amazed that the Creator of the universe, the Savior of all mankind would humble himself to wash the dirty feet of those that would betray Him. Help me not to be afraid to get my hands dirty and reach out to those who are truly in need, whether it be a wounded soul or "dirty" feet that need to be washed. Help me to have a true servant's heart like Jesus and reach out to others in need.
