SPIRITUAL VITAMIN DEVOTIONAL
"So they...found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. "
~Luke 2:16
I love Christmas and the month of December. It is my favorite holiday and time of year with all the decorations and colorful lights. I like to drive around and look at all the beautifully decorated homes and yards. I especially like how whole neighborhoods will come together to create a spectacular show of lights and scenes of winter wonderland. Some people really go overboard with giant inflatable snowmen and of course, Santa and his reindeer. Occasionally, you will even find baby Jesus lying in a manger.
Somehow a manger scene seems to get lost in the midst of colorful blinking lights and elaborate decorations...or it is forgotten altogether. Try putting a manger scene in a public place and the secular world will definitely take note. They will not forget about baby Jesus for they are passionate about removing the manger scene permanently! I am sad to say that the Body of Christ has allowed the "world" to reduce Jesus to a baby in a manger at Christmas time, and even that is endangered. Hard to believe that a plastic doll would be so threatening. Of course, it is not the baby that is feared, but whom it represents - Jesus, the King of kings and the Lord of lords! Is the manger scene in a prominent place in your home or has it been forgotten altogether?
Who is Jesus to you? Is He the Babe in the manger or the Supreme Ruler of the universe? The King of kings laid down His life for you. Will you stand up and acknowledge Him this Christmas?
Prayer:
Father, forgive us for being so apathetic and blind to what is taking place around us. Forgive us for taking the focus off of the real meaning of Christmas and looking more like the world around us. Help us to boldly proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom to a dying and lost world.
