SPIRITUAL VITAMIN DEVOTIONAL
"...let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth."
~1 John 3:18
Everyone is looking for love. Men, women, young and old alike want the security of being loved. We have a deep longing to love and be loved. The problem is that the world's definition of love does not, and can not, meet our needs. Television and movies portray people falling in and out of love frequently. Just like today's culture, relationships are disposable. The world's motto: "When tough times come -- change partners, until tough times come - then change partners again". I am sad to say that this truth applies to all relationships...marriage, family, friendships, ministry and work.
We "fall" in love because of how the other person makes us feel. Then we fall out of love when they no longer make us feel good. Two important truths I have learned from God's word: We love because He first loved us; and love is an action. Love is more than a feeling. Our feelings come and go. The truth is, love is a commitment and reveals itself to others through our actions. As we draw closer to God, His love flows through us into our words and actions. God manifests His presence through our actions towards others.
What do your actions say? It is easy to say "I love you" while your actions say "I love me even more". It is easy to say "I love you" and then disregard the other person's needs, wants and desires. It is easy to say "I love you" and not give of your time, your gifts and your resources. Do your actions line up with your words: "I love you"?
Prayer:
Father, forgive us. Forgive us for you showed us what love is through your actions...You sent your son to die for us. The truth is Your son showed us his love by sacrificing his life for ours. These actions not only say "I love you" but that You are LOVE. Thank you Father that Jesus shows us what love is and how love acts. Help us to seek your presence daily that we may show your love through our actions everyday.
