REJECTION

"If anyone declares...me, I will do the same for him before my Father in heaven. But if anyone rejects me..., I will reject him before my Father in heaven. "
~Matthew 10:32-33 Today's English Version

Do you ever feel alone and rejected? Have you ever been fired from a job? Lost a spouse through death or divorce? Have you been betrayed by someone close to you? Has a family member or friend turned their back on you? Rejection is painful... Everyone has experience it at sometime in their life. The word rejection means to discard, deny, denounce, eliminate, refuse and rebuff.

Jesus experienced rejection. He faced it most of his life. In fact, before he was even born, Joseph rejected him until an angel appeared to him in a dream. The innkeeper dismissed him when he was in Mary's womb. King Herod rejected him by trying to kill him when he was just an infant in his mother's arms. Even his family thought he was crazy and rebuffed him. The people of his home town of Nazareth ran him out of town. Then there were the Pharisees, the religious community, who denied and denounced his deity. They too tried to eliminate him by killing him. The Romans wanted to discard him and crucified him. And then there were the disciples, those closest to him, who rejected him by turning their backs on him at his darkest hour. Then the worst rejection of all came as a holy God turned his back on him at the cross when he took on your sin and mine...

Yes, the Lord Jesus understands how we feel when others reject us. Have you rejected him as your savior? Have you turned away from his love? Have you denied his lordship in your life? Though others may reject you, he will never leave nor forsake you. He suffered shame and rejection so that you can be accepted. Have you accepted God's gift of eternal life? It is written, "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!"

Prayer:
Father, forgive me for rejecting your Son. I confess that I am a sinner in need of a savior. I believe that Jesus Christ is your son, that he lived on this earth, was crucified and died for my sins and rose victorious from the grave and now sits at your right hand. I understand that Salvation is a gift and not something I can earn. It was purchased with the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. I repent of my sins today and invite Jesus into my heart so that I may spend eternal life with you. Amen.
