PERPETUAL BUSYNESS
June 12, 2008
And when He had sent the multitudes away,
He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray.

~Matthew 14:23 NKJV

As busy women, the responsibilities of our personal and
professional lives can be overwhelming. When you ask a woman how
she is doing, she will often respond with "Busy, very busy.” In
today’s society, being on the go, getting things done and
multi-tasking are considered virtues by some. Yet, perpetual
busyness can lead to a life out of control. Webster’s dictionary
defines the word “virtue” as an asset, a desirable quality or
commendable trait. Somehow this definition does not fit with a
“life out of control.” Contrary to popular belief, busyness is
not a Fruit of the Spirit!
Perpetually busy minds; busy emotions and busy bodies make for a
busy mess! Too much busyness in our daily lives damages us
emotionally as well as physically. We become angry, frustrated,
irritable and even depressed. We are like depleted bank accounts
-- withdrawals are made daily with little or no deposits. We
become overdrawn, withdrawn, drained and empty with nothing left
to give.
If Jesus needed time alone with God, then even more so, we need
time alone with Him. Think about it. Jesus was God in the flesh,
yet he needed time alone with his Father. There were still lost
souls and people with broken lives. There were multitudes of
people who needed His healing touch and an encouraging word.
Yet, He made time to connect each day with the Father. We need
to selfishly guard this time with God. Jesus did. He sent them
away and prayed.
Are you tired and worn out? Are you drained emotionally? Are you
numb spiritually? Then stop and ask yourself if you are starting
each day new with the Lord. He desires to communicate His love,
grace and peace to us, but sometimes we are too busy to hear
Him. Slow down and give yourself time to connect with the
Creator of your heart, your day. This time alone with God
prepares us for our day and restores our spirit, soul and body.
The perpetual busyness will then turn into peace, purpose and
productivity as you allow God to organize your day!
Prayer:
Father, forgive me for being so busy that I have not made you a
priority. Help me to carve out time daily to spend in your
presence that I may reconnect with the Creator of my day. As I
do, restore my fractured spirit, empty soul and tired body. Let
my life be a reflection of my time with You!
