EVIDENCE NOT SEEN

the evidence of things not seen.

At a crime scene, police look for evidence to track down the
person who perpetrated the crime. The evidence is proof of
wrongdoing and is used in court to convict the offender. The
Greek word for evidence in Hebrews 11:1 means: proof;
conviction; prove false. The enemy (I prefer not to use his name
and give him free PR) uses evidence like a job loss, a
rebellious teen or a broken marriage as proof that God does not
love us. While the police use evidence to convict a criminal,
the enemy uses evidence to weaken our faith.
How easy it is to have strong faith when the evidence is good:
money in the bank, good health, solid marriage, job security,
and of course, the children are doing well. How easily our faith
waivers when the evidence is bleak: the money is running out or
is gone; we are plagued with sickness and heartache; a child
rebels; a husband wants a divorce or we lose a job. During dark
times like this, many people often say: “If only I had more
faith…”
A common error many Christians make is praying for more faith.
It is not how much faith we have. God gives to each of us a
measure of faith. It is who our faith is in. The crisis of
belief is whether or not we trust that God is who He says He is.
It is knowing that God is in control even when our life seems
out of control.
Hebrews 11:1 states: Faith is the substance of things hoped for.
The substance of our faith is the essence – the core, the heart
of who Jesus is. He is our assurance, our guarantee of victory.
To hope is to expect, to anticipate that He is working on our
behalf in spite of the evidence before us. You see, God is
always working behind the scenes to accomplish His purpose.
Therefore, we are to walk by faith, not by sight…
Faith is vital (fundamental, essential, crucial) to our walk
with God. Scripture states: “without faith it is impossible to
please God” (Hebrews 11:6). When we waiver, when we doubt, when
we do not trust God, we do not please Him. To please Him means
to gratify entirely; to be fully agreeable. To doubt is evidence
that we disagree with God and agree with the enemy.
The evidence demands a verdict. What or who is the substance of
your faith? Do you trust God? Do you really? In the words of
King Jesus: “Where is your faith?” (Luke 8:25)
Prayer:
Father, forgive me for wavering during times of trouble and
testing. You are my God, my King and my deliverer. My faith, my
hope and my confidence is in You. May my faith walk be pleasing
to You and be evidence to all that I serve a mighty God!
