Some people do not like change while others thrive on
it. I like routine. I get up every morning and perform the same
ritual. I turn on the coffee pot and then take the dog out.
While I sip on my hot coffee, I turn on the television to listen
to the weather report and catch up on world events. Then I
settle down for my "quiet time" before the day's interruptions
begin. This morning ritual helps me to stay on track. I confess
that it is difficult for me to step out of my routine and change
my habits. Like someone said, "Nobody likes change but a wet
baby!"
The Greek word for "change" in 2 Corinthians 3:18 is "metamorphoo". It means
to transform, to modify, to fashion. It is where we get the word metamorphous.
The Creator gives a wonderful example of this in nature - the caterpillar is
transformed into a beautiful butterfly. Without this change, this
transformation, the caterpillar is doomed to stay in it's seemingly "safe"
cocoon and suffocate. It will never experience what it is like to fly and
encounter new heights. Without this change, the caterpillar's divine purpose is
aborted.
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes are challenging. Whether or not you like change, it's
inevitable. Do you hope your situation will change, but are not willing to
change your habits, your thinking process or your routines? They can make you
feel safe, but can also be monotonous when you get stuck in a cocoon of fear. If
you want to see things change in your life, you must be willing to change. If
you do not step out of the ordinary, chances are, nothing extraordinary will
happen!
God will often interrupt your life with change to get your attention. When
you embrace the changes, He will use them to grow and stretch you into the
person He has destined you to be. You then become less self-sufficient and more
dependant on Him. You must be willing to break out of your cocoon and step out
in faith. In order to be changed from "glory to glory", you must be willing to
experience the "to", for this is where the true transformation takes place. The
Lord Jesus said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little
children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3)
Are you stuck in a rut or a cocoon of fear? Do you feel like you are
suffocating? If so, break out today! Allow the Creator to change and transform
you, so that you can fulfill the divine purpose He has for you.
Prayer:
Father, thank you for interrupting my life with change. Forgive me when I have
hidden in my seemingly "safe" cocoon of routine and have allowed fear to keep me
from breaking free. Change me from "glory to glory" no matter how painful, and
transform me into the person You have created me to be, so that my life may
glorify You!
